Interviewee: Marco Sorgetti, European association for forwarding, transport, logistic and customs services

Chris Slatter: You had some quite forthright things to say in the debate on the floor. What exactly is your point of view on this whole subject of carbon capture and storage?

Marco Sorgetti: Well, this is an interesting technology which is certainly offering some alternatives and it could be a bridging technology for a period. We think that everything that is available has to be put on the table and developed. The problem is just simply too great to be dealt with with one technology. We need everything and we need everything to be working and to be given a chance. That is why I talked about why don't we think about market failure into putting everything on the table on an equal footing. We really need to develop everything if we want to address the problem in a meaningful way.

Chris Slatter: How do you think some of these technologies are going to be implemented? What will be the mechanism do you think?

Marco Sorgetti: Well, some of the technology is there - like for instance, Photovoltaic is there, windmills are there. This particular technology is going to be, in my opinion, in my view, demanding in terms of energy itself because it will be capturing and storing, and mind you, I'm in logistics, nobody knows how hard is storing things as we do. But it can actually address very big quantities in a short time which is a very, very good way of addressing the problem.

Chris Slatter: Are you in favour of mandatory requirements?

Marco Sorgetti: Well, mandatory in the vocabulary of clear cut is not exactly the word that we like. There are very many ways to have things working that can do the trick without a mandate.

Chris Slatter: How urgent do you think it is that we address C02 emissions?

Marco Sorgetti: Very urgent. Very, very urgent. This is suddenly very urgent but, as I said, there's just not one recipe for it. We have to push everything forward and very, very much so.
