Biography

Peter Breedveld is an associate professor at the Control Engineering (CE) laboratory of the faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science (EWI) of the University of Twente (UT) and participates in the Institute of Mechanics Processes And Control Twente (IMPACT).

He received the B.Sc., M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees from UT. He has been a visiting professor at the University of Texas at Austin and at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He has been an industrial consultant to several major companies. His main research interest is the integrated, port-based modelling and design of multidisciplinary, controlled engineering systems.

In 1990 he received a Ford Research grant for his work in the area of physical system modelling and the design of computer aids for this purpose. He initiated the development of the modelling and simulation tool that is now commercially available under the name 20-sim from the successful UT spin-off SME Control Lab Products
BV. He is an associate editor of the Journal of the Franklin Institute, SCS Simulation and Mathematical and Computer Modelling of Dynamical Systems. He has been the scientific director of the European project OLMECO (Open Library of MEchatronic COmponents) and participated in the European project GEOPLEX (Geometric Network Modeling and Control of Complex Physical Systems).
