Biography

Mark Timmins is the Director of Fashion at Heriot-Watt University and has a special interest in the environment. Born in 1962, he graduated from the John Moores University with a degree in constructed textiles and received his Masters in fashion from St. Martins School of Art in London.
His current research interests include the role of fashion in space exploration and tourism, eco/fair trade/slow fashion and the ethics of fast fashion (production, design, and distribution/retail) photography and recycled material sculpture.

He has been a member of a university research group on green issues and climate change, put on a fashion show at a major public trade fair exploring the reuse/upcycling of denim clothing, and has also had an exhibition of recycled material sculptures at the Scottish Fisheries Museum.

His upcoming eco-projects include a fashion show of recycled denim and eco fibres in Hackney, London, in October 2008, and an exhibition of recycled materials sculpture at the Fisheries Museum in Eyemouth, Scotland, at Easter 2009.
