| Biography |
Marcus Garnet has worked as a town planner since 1990. He received his Masters in Urban and Rural Planning at the Technical University of Nova Scotia, which brought him to Halifax from Montreal where he had obtained a Bachelor of Commerce and a Diploma in Community Politics and the Law. He is a Licenced Professional Planner in the province of Nova Scotia, a member of the Canadian Institute of Planners, a faculty adjunct with the Dalhousie University School of Planning, and Vice President of Transport 2000 Atlantic. He is employed as a Senior Planner with a large municipality in Nova Scotia. Marcus has done research and policy analysis on a wide range of issues including settlement patterns, parkland, community design and public transit options. In his regional and community planning work, Marcus has focused on the relationship between transportation, land use and lifestyle. Marcus works closely with community members and a wide range of other professionals on interdisciplinary strategic planning and visioning. For Transport 2000, he has coordinated research and advocacy projects on rural transit partnerships, passenger rail markets and intermodal integration. Marcus lives with his wife Christine in a traditional urban centre, enjoys walking to work, and uses ferries and buses for local meetings. They own a car which they use to get to church and the occasional picnic, but for long-distance trips they carpool or use the bus or train. Christine does most of the shopping on foot, using her zero-emission shopping cart. They also enjoy walking their West Highland Terrier who has introduced them to many people in the neighbourhood! |
