Antonio Sarmento

Associate Professor at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, IST, Technical University of Lisbon, since 1993 became President of the Board of Directors of the Wave Energy Centre since 2003 and Member of the Board of Directors of the European Ocean Energy Association since 2006. Since July of 2007 he is also Member of the Board of directors of the International Society of Offshore and Polar Engineering (ISOPE). He was responsible for the hydrodynamic design and power take-off design specification of the Pico wave energy pilot plant (1993-96). From 1997 onwards he acts as a consultant of the company AWS B.V. in the development (device conception and model development) of the AWS wave energy device (to be deployed in Portugal in October 2004). From 2005 onwards he was a Consultant of Martifer Energia for the conceptual design and simulation of wave energy devices. He was the Coordinator of the Wavetrain Marie Curie RTN on wave energy, project that finished at the end of February 2008. In the last 10 years he has been the IST responsible of 6 European Union (EU) R&D projects and 3 national R&D projects and he has collaborated as a researcher in other 6 EU R&D projects.
