Bjorn Stigson
Bjorn Stigson has been President of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development since 1995. An expert on the challenges of sustainable development, his background in international business has enabled him to lead the WBCSD over the past decade as it has established itself as the world’s leading organisation focused on business and sustainable development.
Beginning his career as a financial analyst for the Kockums Group in his native Sweden, Bjorn went on to work for the Swedish-founded welding multinational ESAB before taking up the position of President and CEO of the Flakt group, which specialised in environmental control technology.
His experience there, coupled with his background in international business, took him to the WBCSD in 1995.
During his thirteen years as President he has overseen the development of the organisation into a 200-member coalition of international companies dedicated to providing business leadership as a catalyst for sustainable development.
A graduate of the Gothenburg School of Business Administration, the Swedish Management Institute and Harvard Business School, his expertise on sustainable development is in considerable demand. He currently serves on the boards of or on committees advising: the Chinese government, the Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes, the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, the Clinton Global Initiative and the Global Reporting Initiative.
